Widows in the United States
According to the U. S. Census Bureau, nearly 700,000 women lose their husbands each year and will be widows for an average of 14 years and 32% of women aged 55 and olders are widows.
According to statistics gathered by AARP, there are four times as many widows as widowers in the U.S.
- There are 12 million widows in the United States
- Half of all women over the age of 65 will become widows
- The average age of a widow is between 53 and 55 years old
- 8 out of 10 married women are going to be widows
