Women, Divorce and the House
What Women Facing Divorce Need to Know About Keeping the House
Kelly Lise Murray, J.D., graduate of Stanford and Harvard Law Schools & founder of Divorce This House, addressed our group of women homeowners in Danville, California. Our audience of of about 20 women included 3 women already in the divorce process.
Kelly is a wealth of knowledge about how divorce affects the house and what women facing divorce need to know and pay attention to. The question of what to do with the house during and after the divorce - is the perfect emotional storm, according to Kelly.
It was amazing to hear that less than 3% of homeowners going through divorce that decide to keep the house perform due diligence on the house. The standard formula of getting an appraisal and subtracting the liens on the property usually leaves the spouse who is keeping the house in an inferior financial position.
Kelly & Wendy Waselle, co-founders of Divorce This House, are turning divorce real estate on its head with their training for Realtors, mortgage brokers, home inspectors and other real estate professionals.
Do you owe money on a home you no longer own? A quitclaim deed is not enough. Can you use alimony and child support for mortgage qualification? How can you find knowledgeable people who are sensitive to your situation? These are just a few of the topics that Kelly addressed.
I've broken the videos into segments that are 3 to 5 minutes in length.
