Hiring a Handyman

Should I hire a contractor or a handyman?

Need a light fixture replaced, a fence repaired or a leaky faucet repaired? When should you hire a contractor versus a handyman?

handyman handymenMany women homeowners ask their friends for a referral when they need something fixed or added around the home. Having a good plumber, roofer, general contractor, electrician and the like is always smart thinking (ask your local team of professional women for referrals), but what about a local handyman for those incidental maintenance projects that are always cropping up?

One reason to consider a handyman is that they often adertised that - no job is too small. Many contractors will not bother themselves with small jobs and if they do, the expense to you could be much more than hiring a handyman because of the greater overhead costs a contractor has.

Many handymen have a great deak of experience in various facets of home building. Some of them have been builders, contractors or subcontractors at times. Some may be retired and working as a handyman to keep busy or to supplement their retirement income. Others have worked for various types of jobs such as an electrician or a landscaper. When considering hiring a handyman, be sure to perform your due diligence - find out their exact background and their expertise so it will be a good fit for your own job . Always ask for references and get written estimates for the first couple of projects you use them on.
