Fairfield CT Parade

The Memorial Day Parade—doesn’t get more hometown and American than Fairfield CT’s annual time honored event! Something for everyone, from ball players to girl scouts, from beloved vets to marching bands. On a crystal blue Monday morning, Fairfield shined like the down-to-earth, unpretentious town it really is.

A celebratory atmosphere filled the air, as parade watchers witnessed their war heroes pass by and marching bands play old American standards. It’s hard to not get a tad misty-eyed when one truly stops and takes in the whole scene. Fairfield CT evokes the naivety of a time gone by while maintaining a healthy reality to the modern day. On Memorial Day, the entire town embraces its moment in the sun and unites together on one of the nation’s proudest of holidays.

We in Fairfield CT are blessed to be given the opportunity to delight and or participate in a meaningful American tradition. Horray for the red, white and blue!

WE Magazine for WE Women!

Online Magazine Recognizes Our Network!

WE Magazine recently recognized our Independent Women Homeowners Network in their "Women On A Mission" feature interview with our Founder Ginny Mees. Here are a few excerpts from the interview:

What's the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our    readers?     I would say for me that time-blocking helps me keep focused and accomplish my daily tasks, which help me achieve my long term goals. In general I am an organized person, but because I spend a lot of time on the phone and I am passionate about this business, I can get sidetracked, so I also keep a timer on my desk.

What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business? I would say the experience I have developed in blogging over the past year has been HUGE!! I had no idea the power (Google Juice) this gives a website. I am still learning and there are many way ahead of me, but I find it fun to explore my creative side.

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years? I think keeping your eye on the end result and not letting myself get disappointed or disheartened when something goes wrong. I have to continue to remind myself I am one step closer to the result I want. As my husband always said when showing properties to prospects: you have to have the "throw-aways" in order for the client to gain perspective and know what they want when they see it.

If you are not familiar with this magazine, check it out: it is a fabulous online resource for busy women on the move! Everything from articles on how to manage your money, to featuring female entrepreuners on their cover, and throughout their magazine. But they also have great advice for women in business, lifestyle issues, and even 1000 FREE giveaways that they sought out on the web...check it out, I know it has been bookmarked on my desktop and will remain a personal fave! Thanks to the founder of WE Magazine, Heidi Richards for your work on behalf of our gender!

The Irish in Fairfield, CT

Irish Worked Their Way Into Fairfield

In Connecticut's young history, very few immigrants were received here. Connecticut's lack of direct trade with Europe coupled with its limited economic opportunities made it one of the most homogeneous states until the mid-nineteenth century. By 1850, about 27,000 of the state's population had been born in Ireland, making the Irish the largest immigrant group at the time.

The Irish arrived mostly in search of jobs and jobs they did-digging canals, laying railroad tracks and tending machines! By the 1870's they formed the majority of the labor force.

The Irish have left an indelible mark in the Fairfield area via social clubs and restaurants. The Gaelic-American Club located at 74 Beach Road in Fairfield CT is one such dedicated establishment.
