Divorce: Your Opportunity for ReBirth!

Find the Life You Have Always Wanted!

It seems throughout my entire life divorce has been a BIG word in my vocabulary.

divorce real estate womenFirst, I was a child of divorce, I have been divorced myself (although now happily married for 12 years), and I have watched my brother-in-law, sister in-law, cousins, and numerous friends’ marriages crumble around me. Then I found that many of my real estate clients’ were divorcing, and then this became a specialty of mine:  working for divorcing women, and making sure I “represented the best interest of the house”. ., see our article on Divorce This Home and making sure you hire a REALTOR who understand how to stay neutral in the process

I recently took a two day special training on Divorce and how it applies to real estate. After I completed the course, I obtained my RCS-D (Real Estate Collaborative Specialist-Divorce) designation, but more importantly I learned about the financial dangers of either party retaining the home after divorce. It can impact your credit, your financial stability, and let’s talk about the ever important emotional baggage for the family staying in the home. It feels empty without the other parent, and there are happy memories that will always leave a sense of loss in this property.family-home-blue

Whether or not you are the leaving party or the left behind party, there is an opportunity for re-birth and re-purposing our lives. I happened to be the leaving party in my divorce, so I moved out of the house (I think it is near to impossible to be the leaving party and end up in the house!). In addition developing a list of things you want to accomplish in your new life and focusing on the future is a positive way to start.

Shelley Stile,  A Divorce Recovery Life Coach shares the positive viewpoint:

All too often, we don't recognize the opportunities in life. We see obstacles instead of openings. Divorce is a perfect example of hidden opportunities. At first we cannot see the forest through the trees. We are in pain and our perspective or outlook is very limited. We don't realize that our divorce has many gifts or opportunities for growth. They are hidden from view but the challenges that lay before us are actually chances to become the person we were always meant to be.
